Hollie Gazzard Trust Founder and CEO, Nick Gazzard and Dawn Burke, Ambassador and Principal at Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre, were invited by Cityforum to be on a panel of experts to speak on Violence Against Women & Girls (VAWG) Round Table event, held this week at the IBM offices in London.
Nick Gazzard said: ”Dawn and I spoke about our partnership and our community approach with the work that we are doing in schools, particularly with Newent. In particular, we discussed the way that we are not only running student workshops but also training staff and speaking to parents and local business about the training. The training focuses on Active Bystander but we are also delivering knife crime and rethinking masculinity workshops. We are grateful to be invited to such an important event on an important topic – something I and the charity take very seriously.”
The event also involved leading experts in the field of VAWG, and the discussion assessed the wide range of crimes that disproportionately affect women and girls, and examined the steps needed to reduce the volume of offences and increase the number of convictions in this area.
At the end of the panel discussion, there was questions from the audience.
VAWG is a theme that spans many policy areas and is proving to be a complex problem for the government, the criminal justice system, the police and the whole of society.
