The Hollie Gazzard Trust is proud to share that Nick Gazzard has officially received his OBE in recognition of his tireless work to prevent domestic abuse and stalking, and for his dedication to supporting victims and survivors.
Nick was presented with the honour by HRH The Princess Royal during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Friday. It was a moment filled with emotion, pride, and reflection on the journey that began following the tragic loss of his daughter, Hollie.
In 2014 Hollie Gazzard, just 20 years old, was murdered by her ex-partner at her workplace in Gloucester. Since that day, Nick and the charity have worked tirelessly to ensure that Hollie’s legacy shines a light on the issues she faced: domestic abuse, coercive control, stalking, and gender-based violence.
Nick said: “We always said that we would have a legacy for Hollie. We want to do good work in the area to try and prevent the Hollies of the future from happening.”
Throughout his campaigning and public speaking, Nick and the charity has maintained the importance of educating young people. The key to stopping abuse before it starts.
Nick said: “There’s lots of pressure around at the moment, particularly for young men, with some of the role models that are out there. So it’s about trying to educate young people in particular, about what domestic abuse is, so that we can prevent individuals from becoming perpetrators.”
Nick was humble in receiving the honour, whilst dedicating it to the very people he fights for every day.
Nick said: “It’s a real honour to receive this on behalf of those individuals who are victims and survivors of domestic abuse and stalking, because we know how devastating it can be when you lose someone.”
Everyone at the Hollie Gazzard Trust sends their heartfelt congratulations to Nick, and the Gazzard family. His passion has inspired change at every level, and ensured Hollie’s story is never forgotten.
Congratulations, Nick.
