The Hollie Gazzard Hairdressing Fund launched at Gloucestershire College.

Gloucestershire College is honored to have been asked to join forces with the Hollie Gazzard Trust to financially support young people who would like to pursue a career in hairdressing.

The Hollie Gazzard Trust was set up in memory of 20 year old Hollie, a former hairdressing trainee and popular local hairdresser.

The Hollie Gazzard Trust together with the College have developed a framework for a fund that will pay for materials, trips, equipment and uniform for eligible hairdressing students aged 16-19. There is a selection process that each applicant will go through and the decision will be made based upon certain criteria.

The Hollie Gazzard Trust has agreed to sponsor six individuals a year and the fund will be called ‘The Hollie Gazzard Hairdressing Fund’

This fund is available to all potential hairdressing students aged 16-19 in Gloucestershire from Level 1 applicants upwards. Potential students must register their interest with Gloucestershire College Admissions and they will then fill out an application form and write a supporting statement as to why they should receive the fund, the applications will then go to a panel made up of Nick Gazzard (Hollie’s Dad) and College staff for selections to be made.

Nick Gazzard said: “Hollie was such a good hairdresser – it was her life. She was very stylish and fashion conscious. We know how expensive it is for hairdressing students to train and we want to support those that are less fortunate in terms of finances to become hairdressers in Gloucestershire and we are quite determined to do that in Hollie’s name.”

Jo Minns, Head of Hairdressing, Beauty and Holistic Therapies and Trustee at the Hollie Gazzard Trust said she was proud to be working with Trust; “Nick has already been to the College’s end of year ceremony to talk to students about the scheme. Everyone was touched by what they will be doing. Although it was emotional listening to him speak, it was so positive.

We do have individuals who struggle financially and sadly some will leave education because of that burden and the need to work. The family has done an amazing job at getting Hollie’s name out and the hairdressing community is a close knit one, so the Trust is something close to everyone’s heart.

Gloucestershire College is inviting all Hairdressing applicants to apply for this fund (new applicants and those that have already applied)

To register interest and apply for the fund, please contact Gloucestershire College Admissions on 01242 532174 or admissions@gloscol.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is 22nd August 2014.
